Albanian puppet show wins award at international festival in Mostar

TIRANA, Oct. 21 /ATA/ – Albania’s National Puppet Theatre received recognition at the sixth edition of the International Puppet Art Festival (FLUM) in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where its production “The Circus Show”, directed by Klajd Ymeri, won the award for best puppet articulation.

The award recognises the production’s distinctive artistic approach. Performed entirely without dialogue, the show places physical expression, movement and puppet articulation at the heart of its storytelling. Through gestures, movement and stage expression, the performers convey emotions and engage with audiences, demonstrating the expressive potential of puppetry beyond words.

Melsi Qirici, director of the National Puppet Theatre, said “The Circus Show” was one of this year’s premieres and was continuing its journey through international festivals.

Qirici expressed pride in the artists and the applause they received while representing Albania.

Participation in FLUM offers another opportunity to showcase Albanian puppetry on the international stage.

The theatre is continuing its efforts to bring new productions to audiences. Its next production, “The Lion King”, is expected to delight young spectators with an unusual project featuring anatomical puppets using several techniques. The auditorium will be transformed into a safari through immersive projections, while the production will feature 11 actors on stage, making it the largest production the theatre has staged to date.
