TIRANA, Oct 21 /ATA/ The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, stated today that the Democratic Party fully supports the protest of university and high school students.
He announced that the Democratic Party is continuing its efforts to secure international support for the protest.
At a meeting of the Democratic Party’s leadership, Berisha said that the Democratic Party is committed to supporting the protest, both through public appeals and through the direct participation of its members.
Berisha said students and protesters would have access to free legal assistance at all times. He added that the Democratic Party had taken, and would continue to take, additional steps to strengthen its support for the protest movement.
He also said that Democratic Party MPs and party structures were engaged in efforts to secure international support for the student protests.
He expressed his gratitude to international representatives who have voiced concern over violence against protesters, stressing that the Democratic Party’s (DP) efforts to inform international partners about developments in Albania are ongoing.
Berisha also stated that this Saturday’s protest would be a national demonstration, called by students and supported by the DP, urging party structures to mobilise for mass participation.
Berisha called on party members to coordinate their efforts with branch leaders and coordinators, stressing the need for tangible results in organising the protest.
“Showing solidarity with the students’ strike from every secondary school and high school across Albania is essential. Maximum possible participation in their protest is equally essential. Therefore, you must put in place all the necessary organisational arrangements within your branches to fulfil this mission,” Berisha said.
He stressed that the DP supports the protest by students and secondary school pupils and would actively back them.
