TIRANA, April 4 /ATA/ – The blessing of bread and food on the eve of Easter (Holy Saturday) is a traditional Christian custom, celebrating the end of Lenten fasting and the resurrection of Jesus. Families bring baskets containing symbolic foods—such as bread, eggs, meat, and salt—to church to be blessed by a priest with holy water.
Prime Minister Edi Rama shared footage from this special ceremony held at the Diocese of Sapa in Vau e Dejës, Nënshat and Blinisht. This rite has also been held in other Catholic churches throughout the country.
The prime minister quoted: “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst” (John 6:35). It means that believing in and following Jesus satisfies the deepest longings of the human soul. /p.s./
