TIRANA, April 5 /ATA/ – Catholic faithful gathered at Saturday midnight at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Tirana for the Easter Vigil Mass celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, in one of the most important events of the Christian calendar.
The service, attended by worshippers of all ages, was led by Archbishop of Tirana-Durrës Arjan Dodaj.
“Christ is risen. Do not be afraid. He has risen as he said,” was the central message of the liturgy.
Addressing the congregation, Dodaj described the vigil as a long-awaited moment of hope for humanity, adding that Easter is a celebration that embraces both the living and those who have passed on.
“May this Easter be a spiritual rebirth in our families and among the youth of Albania,” he said. “With God, every lost hope is revived and filled with new light and renewed enthusiasm for the present and the future.”
He added that faith offers strength in facing life’s challenges, saying believers should not fear the future.
The archbishop also reflected on ongoing global conflicts, expressing hope for peace and calling for divine guidance in what he described as difficult times.
At the conclusion of the service, several believers were baptised.
Easter, marking the resurrection of Christ, is one of the most significant celebrations for Catholic believers, carrying a message of hope, renewal and the triumph of life over death. It also serves as a call for unity and peace, encouraging efforts toward a more just and humane world.
