TIRANA, April 4 /ATA/ Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa raised concerns about waste management in Saranda today, especially on the threshold of the tourist season, emphasizing the need for immediate intervention and concrete measures.
During a discussion, Zhupa, who is also the chairwoman of the Committee on Education and Public Information, pointed at the current problems that, according to her, are damaging the image of the city.
She emphasized that the city’s waste is transported to the Bajkaj landfill in Delvina with depreciated vehicles that pollute more than they clean, while adding that during the summer the situation worsens significantly due to the tourist influx.
“During the summer season, the city faces an increase of up to five times the population, but waste management remains the same,” said the MP.
According to her, the images of overflowing bins and piles of waste have become a serious problem.
Zhupa warned that this situation directly affects tourism and the perception of visitors.
She proposed a series of measures to improve the situation, including, “Differentiated waste management, increased government assistance and funding during the tourist season, real investment in recycling and separation of refuse at source, as well as modernization of the cleaning fleet.” /m.q/ /a.g/p.s./
