Rama: Anti-waste task force, three-phase plan to curb civic irresponsibility

TIRANA, January 17 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting with mayors today on the challenges of municipalities for 2026, the tourist season and the joint political and social battles against plastic waste.

During his speech, Rama announced establishment of a task force to manage plastic waste dumped in the territory.

Rama stated that the year has begun with a difficult weather situation, which has affected a large part of the territory and communities and make the country face an emergency, situations that are becoming increasingly systematic due to climate change.

The head of government added that in face of the high intensity of rainfall, there is little that can be done in terms of technology, but stressed that the situation is worsened by factors directly related to human behavior. He said that irresponsible citizens throw plastic waste into nature, emphasizing that this waste, driven by wind and rainfall, blocks key points of the drainage network.

Therefore, Rama called for a joint commitment to plastic waste, emphasizing that it is a consequence of human behavior and has a major environmental and food impact. To address this problem, the head of government called for the creation of a joint task force between the government and local authorities to draft a three-phase plan, which includes awareness-raising and action in many dimensions. /m.q/j.p/p.s./
