Protecting biodiversity, caring for wild animals takes a community effort, says Mustafai

TIRANA, August 7/ATA/ In Albania’s protected areas, forests, and natural habitats, dedicated people work every day to protect nature and care for wildlife. Minister of Environment Sofjan Jaupaj shared the story of Blondi Mustafai today. Mustafai is a wildlife veterinarian who uses his skills and passion to protect wild animals and save a precious part of Albania’s natural wealth.”In every national park, forest, lake, and nature reserve, people work hard every day to protect our nature, save our wildlife, and share the beauty we have been given,” Jaupaj said.

Blondi Mustafai earned his veterinary degree in 2016. For nearly ten years, he has rescued, healed, and rehabilitated wild animals across Albania. “Fewer people and groups work with wild animals here,” Mustafai says. “I often team up with others to give them proper care. Our work also helps biologists and zoo technicians. “Albania lacks good information on wildlife. Many people still see wild animals as a threat. From wild pigeons to bears, all wildlife belongs to our shared nature. We must all do our part to protect it.”

He said that most of his work happens in the zoo clinic, but he also works out in the field.

“I have the tools to do almost all veterinary tasks, especially emergencies. We treat injured wild animals brought in by citizens or groups. If they recover and can survive, we release them back where we found them. Flora and fauna belong to everyone. We must not abuse them or stop future generations from seeing these animals in the wild,” said Mustafai.
