Sula: Smart cameras to boost transparency and oversight of inspections

TIRANA, July 21 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ As part of the “Smart City” project, all inspectors across the country will be equipped with intelligent body cameras within eight to nine months.

The announcement was made in Gjirokastër by General Inspector Dashnor Sula, who said the new technology would help increase transparency, improve the traceability of inspections and prevent corruption within the inspection system.

“I have the privilege today to announce from Gjirokastër a truly valuable development for the inspection system across the Republic of Albania,” Sula said, highlighting Prime Minister Edi Rama’s support for modernising the inspection framework.

Sula said the body cameras would feature advanced technology and be integrated with artificial intelligence, enabling the identification of potential issues that may arise during field inspections.

According to Sula, the system will also enable real-time transmission of information to a centre that will be established within the General Inspectorate, helping identify cases of abuse by inspectors or attempts at corruption by inspected entities.

“This will be a mechanism that will increase transparency and help prevent corruption among inspectors across the country,” Sula said.

He added that equipping inspectors with intelligent cameras would be accompanied by another innovation: the full digitalisation and modernisation of the inspection system.

According to Sula, under the new system, inspectors will no longer decide which entities are subject to field inspections; instead, the system itself will select them based on risk indicators.

“The system itself will make the selection, based on risk indicators, identifying high-risk entities that will then be subject to inspections,” the General Inspector said.

Sula said the digitalisation of the inspection system and the installation of intelligent body cameras for all inspectors are expected to be completed within eight to nine months, with the aim of creating a modern, transparent and real-time monitored inspection body across the country.

This technology will enable real-time monitoring and interaction, ensuring a more transparent inspection system, better traceability of controls and greater accountability among inspectors.
