Hoxha: Violence and attacks on institutions tarnish Albania’s international reputation

TIRANA, October 14 /ATA/ – Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha stated that the scenes of violence and property destruction during the protest in Tirana tarnish Albania’s international reputation and the message of stability on its path toward the European Union.

In a statement on the social network X, Hoxha emphasized that Albania has made significant strides toward European integration, gaining greater international trust and respect.

“For this very reason, the scenes of violence, property destruction and attacks on institutions or diplomatic missions are disheartening and unacceptable. They represent neither the present-day Albania nor the homeland we aim to build for the future,” the minister wrote.

Hoxha noted that while the country’s international image has been built over the years, it can easily be undermined by acts of violence against institutions and public or private property. Hoxha emphasized that, “Any display of violence against institutions, public or private property weakens the message of stability, damages the perception of Albania as a safe country for tourists and investors and casts a shadow of doubt on our collective ability to progress toward European Union membership.”

“Expressing discontent and peaceful protest are part of democracy; violence is not,” he stressed.

In conclusion, the minister underscored that no one should harm an asset that belongs to everyone—Albania’s name and image. /gj.m/r.e/p.s./
