TIRANA, June 23 /ATA/ – Main opposition Democratic Party (DP) has requested an urgent parliamentary debate on demands raised by anti-government protesters, arguing that ongoing protests and concerns over government transparency require immediate discussion in parliament.
In a request submitted to Parliament and signed by DP parliamentary group chairman Gazment Bardhi, the opposition said protesters had put forward five main demands: the resignation of the government, the repeal of the legal framework governing strategic investments, the abolition of legislation known as the “Mountains Package”, the reversal of amendments to the protected areas law, and the repeal of changes to Albania’s cultural heritage law.
According to Bardhi, the main opposition has already addressed these issues by submitting legislative initiatives seeking to overturn the contested measures.
The opposition has also called for a separate parliamentary debate on the European Commission’s latest report on Albania’s EU accession process.
The requests come amid continuing protests in Tirana over government policies related to development, environmental protection and transparency.
