TIRANA, June 19 /ATA/ Today, divers from the Pashaliman Naval Base safely brought two war shells to the surface in the Gulf of Porto-Palermo. The highly coordinated operation involved naval experts and civil emergency responders, under the oversight of the Himara Municipality.
Himara Municipality Mayor Vangjel Tavo reported that divers safely removed unexploded World War II shells from the seabed in Porto-Palermo. The remnants had rested at the bottom of the sea near tourist anchorages for more than 80 years.
Tavo stated that despite resting at considerable depths for over 80 years, the shells remain highly volatile. Once recovered, army experts transported them to a secure site for a controlled detonation.
