TIRANA, June 17 /ATA/ Chairman of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha urged students and teachers to join the civic protest, calling it a vital movement for democracy, the environment, and civil rights.
In a meeting with the Education Department of the Democratic Party, Berisha lauded the demonstration as a necessary civic response to a concerning lack of transparency and the disregard for community rights in decision-making.
According to him, this widespread civic movement has gained massive momentum, prompting the Democratic Party to back the protests in solidarity with the public’s grievances.
Berisha accused the government of an authoritarian approach to governance and reiterated the opposition’s stance that the elections held in the country have not guaranteed full democratic standards.
During his speech, the leader of the DP also spoke on environmental issues, accusing the government of damaging protected areas and the country’s natural resources.
He mentioned Dajti National Park, Shëngjergj area, Leskovik and Butrint, emphasizing that the opposition has opposed the legal changes that, according to it, have violated the protection of these areas.
Berisha called on teachers and students to contribute to the protest and support civic participation.
“The role of students and your role in supporting it is extraordinary,” he said, while emphasizing that the protest must continue peacefully.
The opposition leader described the protest as a means to demand political changes, free elections and democratic standards.
