TIRANA, June 17/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted today again to the protests taking place in Tirana.
Rama shared in the social media a video showing demonstrators overtaking Tirana fan zone, bringing World Cup viewing parties to a halt for citizens enjoying the tournament.
Rama stated that one of history’s most enduring lessons is that radical movements seize power by taking to the streets. Driven by a supposed duty to the homeland, they assert the right to terrorize others. Reason gives way to shouting, dialogue yields to sieges, and coercion is disguised as activism. In this descent, the public destruction of dissidents is deceitfully framed as the people’s will.
Rama added that, “This is how extremist movements in pre-war Europe acted and do so today, exponentially increasing the pressure on democratic space thanks to the uncontrolled ways of the internet.”
“The mob doesn’t seek debate; it seeks submission. They weaponize outrage to make the cost of speaking out too high, enforcing silence through fear”, wrote the head of government.
“Historians agree that street terror begins with acts that seem “small”, with insults, intimidation, public humiliation, street marches and selected attacks on individuals, while the digital crowd multiplies fear and pressure”, Rama further emphasized.
Rama stated that the video from Tirana last night exposes the true reality of the protest. From hateful insults to angry choruses, the marchers’ vocabulary speaks for itself and undermines any claim of democratic citizenship. /gj.m/j.p/p.s./
