Jaupaj in Monaco: Environmental diplomacy key to a sustainable future

TIRANA, May 28 /ATA/ Minister of Environment Sofjan Jaupaj took part as a keynote speaker at the 17th edition of the “Monaco Blue Initiative” forum, held under the patronage of His Serene Highness Albert II and Princess Charlene.

The Monaco Blue Initiative brought together representatives from global financial institutions, academia, international organisations, and policymakers from around the world to discuss the future of the oceans and seas in light of the new Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Agreement, seen as a key instrument for the protection of biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction.

At this prestigious international forum, Albania presented its environmental vision and policies for biodiversity protection, the strengthening of protected areas, and the role that environmental diplomacy now plays in bringing countries together for a more sustainable and secure future for generations to come.

“Albania believes that nature protection and environmental diplomacy are today not only a global responsibility, but also an opportunity to build bridges of cooperation between nations,” said Sofjan Jaupaj in a social media post.

The “Monaco Blue Initiative” is a unique discussion platform that brings together key stakeholders in ocean conservation and governance.

Representatives from governments, international organisations, civil society, NGOs, the private sector, the scientific community and the media meet annually to explore and promote synergies between marine environmental protection and the development of a truly sustainable blue economy.
