Socialist MP: Albania closer than ever to EU membership

TIRANA, April 27 /ATA/ – Albania is closer than ever to European Union membership, Taulant Balla, head of the parliamentary group of the ruling Socialist Party, said on Monday.

In a video message posted on social media, Balla said the main focus of a parliamentary group meeting earlier in the day was progress on reforms and Albania’s EU accession process.

He said the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, and chief negotiator Majlinda Dhuka, briefed Socialist lawmakers on negotiations with the European Union, including the reform agenda and next steps in the process.

Balla said Albania had reached important milestones and was approaching the phase of closing negotiation chapters.

He also said lawmakers raised concerns from their constituencies, stressing the need for better coordination with ministries.

Balla added that 2026-2027 would be decisive years for finalising Albania’s EU accession agreement, saying the country had “never been closer” to the bloc.
