Berisha says peaceful uprising protesters remanded in custody without a shred of evidence

TIRANA, April 20 /ATA/ The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, issued a statement on Monday following the decision of the Tirana Court to remand five protesters in custody. These individuals had been detained on Friday evening during the rally organized by the Democratic Party.

Addressing the opposition supporters from the podium set up in front of the Prime Minister’s office, Berisha asserted that the protesters were remanded in custody without a shred of evidence.

Berisha conveyed his profound gratitude to the tens of thousands of citizens who, through what he characterized as a “powerful hurricane of freedom” last Friday, transformed the voice of courageous Albanians into one of the most resonant echoes on the global stage.

He also expressed appreciation to both local and international media outlets for their coverage of the protest.

In his remarks, Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha expressed gratitude to the April 17 protesters, whom he described as “heroes of the peaceful uprising,” and condemned their detention as lacking any evidence. He attributed the decision to prosecutors and judges Kapo and Peza, whom he accused of acting as partisan militants.

Berisha pledged that securing the urgent release of the detained protesters will be a key battle for the Democratic Party. He contrasted Albania’s events with protests in Europe, noting that while demonstrations there can sometimes turn violent, he argued that never before have protesters been subjected to the kind of violence inflicted on Albanian citizens last Friday.
