TIRANA, March 10 /ATA/ Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, took part in the dialogue platform on the National Single Window for Customs (NSW), a strategic initiative designed to modernize customs procedures and enhance trade facilitation in Albania.
In her address, Minister Ibrahimaj emphasized the strategic importance of this project for the business community and Albania’s European integration process, noting that the National Single Window initiative ‘revolutionizes the way Albanian businesses conduct trade’ through the digitalization of procedures and the reduction of bureaucracy.
Minister Ibrahimaj highlighted Albania’s strategic role as a regional transit hub and stressed that modernizing logistics and administrative procedures is crucial to maximize this potential and strengthen the country’s economic competitiveness.
The implementation of the National Single Window is part of the regional Trade and Transport Facilitation Project in the Western Balkans, financed by the World Bank. The project aims to modernize customs procedures and accelerate the movement of goods through digitalization and inter-institutional coordination.
The National Single Window (NSW) platform envisages the establishment of a unified electronic system for the submission, processing, and exchange of international trade data, facilitating the integration of all competent authorities responsible for issuing permits, licenses, and certificates required for import and export operations. In Albania, the system will be administered by the National Agency for Information Society (AKSHI) and integrated with the e-Albania digital services platform, with the General Directorate of Customs designated as the lead authority for operational implementation and compliance oversight.
The implementation of the National Single Window aims to: streamline international trade procedures; reduce administrative costs for businesses; expedite customs clearance processes; improve inter-institutional coordination; and enhance transparency and integrity in customs operations.
The system also contributes to aligning Albania’s customs procedures with European Union standards, thereby supporting the country’s EU integration process and increasing the competitiveness of Albanian businesses in international markets.”**
The National Single Window is a key tool for enhancing Albania’s business climate and trade facilitation, aiming to reduce bureaucracy, accelerate import and export procedures, improve predictability, and lower transaction costs for businesses.
Ibrahimaj highlighted that the National Single Window will boost exports, integrate Albanian businesses into European and global supply chains, and provide faster, more transparent, and less bureaucratic trade procedures, while stressing the need for coordinated regional implementation.
