Protesters march through Tirana streets, setting fire to benches and trash cans

TIRANA, October 16 /ATSH/ –Protesters scattered across several main streets in the capital this evening.

While a crowd remains outside the Prime Minister’s Office—where a heavy police presence is deployed—others marched toward the Parliament building. The situation near Parliament grew tense; demonstrators threw stones at law enforcement, prompting police to deploy a water cannon to disperse the crowd. Meanwhile, protesters have set fire to trash bins and benches along their route.

The unrest has also spread across multiple areas, including “Martyrs of Nation” boulevard, Skanderbeg square and Kavaja Street.
