SP official urges authorities to act over Berisha’s calls for violence

TIRANA, Feb 21 /ATA/ – The chairman of the Socialist Party (SP) parliamentary group Taulant Balla on Saturday condemned remarks by opposition Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha, who warned of “annihilating attacks” against ruling Socialist Party offices across Albania.

In a public statement, Balla described the comments as an open call to commit criminal acts and incite violence, hatred and division, saying such rhetoric poses a serious concern for public order and security.

“A public call to commit criminal offences, incitement to violence and the involvement of minors in criminal acts are clear criminal violations. It is up to the competent authorities to assess them and act in accordance with the law,” Balla said.

He also addressed members and supporters of the Democratic Party, urging them not to fall prey to escalating rhetoric.

Earlier today, opposition leader Berisha warned that the main opposition DP would target the ruling SP offices across the country if his party headquarters are attacked again.

Berisha claimed tear gas was fired at the DP headquarters during Friday’s unrest in Tirana.

He added that the DP would respond “as you deserve” if further action is taken against its offices.
