TIRANA, January 11 /ATA/ During his “Flasim” (Let’s Talk) podcast, Prime Minister Edi Rama also spoke about his Paris visit for the Summit of the Coalition of the Willing for Ukraine.
On the sidelines of the summit, PM Rama said he held a meeting with Minister of Justice of France and focused on the new Penal Code of Albania.
“We discussed the participation of French partners in the special group that we have set up on reviewing of the penal policy in Albania, as well as the new draft of the Penal Code, in full harmony with European standards and best practices”, said Rama.
Rama emphasized that the country needs a deep review of the penal policy. The prime minister underlined that Albania has already an independent judiciary, but it is not yet fully functional in terms of quality and impartiality.
“We need a major, serious and far-sighted reflection on the penal policy in Albania, because we need to address acute problems, but at the same time protect independence, promote impartiality and improve the quality of justice in this country, where we finally have an independent judiciary, thanks to the leadership of the Socialist Party of Albania and the bipartisan support of the Albanian people. But, we still do not have an impartial judiciary or a quality judiciary. It is not easy, but I am not involved in politics to do easy things or to sit loose on things. On the contrary”, said Rama. /m.q/j.p/p.s./
