Xhindi to ATA: Inflows in Vjosë River decrease, reducing pressure on downstream areas

TIRANA, Jan 10 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ The flooding situation in Fier County is improving, with water levels receding from agricultural land that was inundated due to the Vjosë River overflowing its banks.

In a statement to ATA, the prefect of Fier County, Anduel Xhindi, reported that, up to this point, national and rural roads are now passable under normal conditions.

Xhindi stated that in Fier County the heavy downpour eased overnight and into the following day.

He further noted, “Electricity and drinking water supplies remain stable. The pumping stations are fully operational and maintained in a state of readiness,” Xhindi told ATA.

After days of heavy rainfall and flooding caused by the Vjosë River overflowing, water levels are now gradually receding from agricultural land, easing pressure on crops and farmland in Fier County. Authorities report that while some rivers, including the Seman and Shkumbin, remain high, waters are largely contained within embankments, according to the Fier prefect.

According to Prefect Xhindi, Fier Municipality teams are working on the ground following the receding of floodwaters in the village of Ferras.

The prefect emphasized that the situation on the Seman River is being continuously monitored, particularly in light of increased discharges from the Banjë hydropower plant.
