TIRANA, Oct 9 /ATA/ – A group of 20 chief executives from leading German tourism companies visited the museum city of Gjirokastra on Thursday as part of their first official tour of the UNESCO World Heritage city, exploring investment and cooperation opportunities in Albania’s growing tourism sector.
During the meeting, Gjirokastra Mayor Flamur Golemi highlighted the city’s rich cultural and natural potential, noting a strong increase in visitors this year, including a significant number of German tourists.
“This visit by German tourism executives is an excellent opportunity to promote Gjirokastra internationally and attract new investments in a sector that is vital for the local economy,” Golemi said.
With over 400,000 German visitors recorded in 2024 and the target of surpassing half a million in 2025, Albania is consolidating its position as a trusted and popular destination in the European market.
The delegation, which includes representatives from major German operators such as DERTOUR, ADAC Reisebüro and Schauinsland-Reisen GmbH, is on a tour across Albania to assess accommodation facilities and key tourist destinations as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in sustainable tourism development.
