TIRANA, Nov 26 /ATA/ – The Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu said Tuesday that a new advanced cardiovascular surgical procedure has been performed for the first time in the regional hospital in Shkoder, northwestern Albania.
The new method avoids heart bypass surgery and offers reduced invasiveness on patients.
“For the first time ever in Albania, a surgical procedure that avoids heart bypass surgery has been performed at Shkoder hospital. The modern and minimally invasive surgery method was lead by assistant professor Aurel Toma, a highly experienced cardiologist, who also heads the Hemodynamic Ward at Donauspital in Vienna, Austria,” Health Minister said in a post on the social media.
According to Koçiu, “the advanced technique eliminates the heart bypass surgery, offering an efficient and less invasive solution for patients, an important step for Albanian medicine, which brings international standards and practices to improve health care in the country.”
