TIRANA, Oct 26 /ATA/ The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, received on Thursday in a meeting Gunther Krichbaum, Spokesman for European Affairs of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group in the Bundestag and member of the Political Assembly of the European People’s Party.
Basha expressed his deep gratitude to Krichbaum for his outstanding contribution and that of the CDU in support of the DP and Albania’s European journey.
He assured that the DP is deeply committed to contribute to the process of Albania’s EU membership as the priority of Albanians.
Basha emphasized that the fight against corruption is high on the agenda of the Democratic Party, it is crucial for the progress and economic development of the country. “Albania ranks among the most corrupt countries in the world and this makes the fight against this phenomenon even more urgent. The Democratic Party supports the work of justice institutions and encourages SPAK to continue its efforts to end impunity and bring to justice those who have embezzled the money and abused the trust of citizens,” he emphasized.
Basha also informed about the initiative for the vetting of politicians, a process which aims to rid politics of corruption.
Another topic under discussion was the electoral reform and the necessity to give power to citizens’ votes and guarantee free and fair elections.
