Ekonomi: McGonigal case has nothing to do with Albanian state

TIRANA, March 2 /ATA/ Minister of State for Service Standards, Milva Ekonomi, in her remarks on Thursday in Parliament, said that, “the McGonigal case has nothing to do with the Albanian state, nor with Prime Minister Rama.”

Ekonomi pointed out that the opposition MPs come with an issue that is lacking in substance.

“You are pointing the finger at the McGonigal case, but have you actually followed up the Department of State discussion this time? Mr. Escobar said in the media statement that the McGonigal case belongs to the FBI, adding that for them, Albania is a strategic country. The McGonigal case has nothing to do with the policy of good cooperation that we have with Albania,” she said.

In this context, Ekonomi continued, “I call on the opposition to be well informed before coming here.”

“The McGonigal case has nothing to do with the Albanian state nor with Prime Minister Edi Rama. The investigation file has gone to trial and the US prosecutor’s office has filed charges against only one person, and that is McGonigal,” said Ekonomi.
She said that Albania is going down the path to EU accession, which requires a lot of work.

“Albanians cannot forget the Russian money for pro-Russian parties, Albanians cannot forget January 21 tragedy, Gërdec. Albanians cannot forget that you made Albania a country that no one visited and for these reasons some of you, who helm you, have been designated by the USA for corruption”, Ekonomi said.
