Steinmeier: Opposition and government should work beyond political trenches

TIRANA, December 1 /ATA/ President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier called today on the opposition and the government to work together beyond the political trenches for the common destination of Albania’s membership in the European Union.

In a speech addressed to the Parliament of Albania, Steinmeier said that this effort is worth it, while he assured that, “You can have confidence in the further support of Germany”.

“I know that Albania’s path to the EU will continue to be ambitious. You should work more in fight against obstacles, the defeat of corruption and organized crime and the justice reform”, he said.

President Steinmeier expressed his satisfaction that he is today in Tirana, a youthful and enthusiastic city for the future.

“Tirana is a dynamic, truly European city. Tirana is the center of Albania where European democracy lives, the European Youth Capital 2022. Now, with opening of the membership negotiations in the EU, a new phase begins and the future of Albania in Europe is becoming concrete”, he said./p.s./
