PM Rama: I am confident all countries in region will join Open Balkan initiative

TIRANA, Sept 3 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama told an interview with Euronews Serbia after the Open Balkan summit in Belgrade a day ago that he was confident that all countries in the region will join the Open Balkan initiative one day.

“Eight years ago, I visited Belgrade and Serbia for the first time. It was the first time not only for me, but such a visit took place a full 68 years after the last visit by a high-level  Albanian official to Serbia, or the then Yugoslavia. The changes that have taken place are huge and positive, and that’s a good thing. There are definitely differences and we don’t agree on all issues. There are big disagreements, when it comes to Kosovo, of course. However, I realize that disagreeing on some issues and agreeing to cooperate on many other issues is the best way forward. In this way, we will get to know and understand each other better and learn to put ourselves in the other’s position. In this way, we will eventually realize that even the toughest issues could be eventually solved. The relations in the region are better than ever before, yet there is a lot more room to improve,” Rama said.

Prime Minister Rama also commented on the Albania-Serbia relations, the Kosovo issue, but also about the future of the Open Balkan initiative and the views of the European Union and other countries in the region on this initiative.

On Friday, Albanian PM, Edi Rama was in Belgrade to attend the Open Balkans summit. During this summit, the governments of Albania, North Macedonia and Serbia signed several agreements to avert shortages in food and energy.
