Rama: Albania is separating itself from a phase when corruption was a system in citizens-state relations

TIRANA, June 13/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that Albania has begun to separate itself in a crystal clear way from a phase when corruption was a system in citizens’ relations with the state in every contact.

In the speech he delivered at the National Anti-Corruption Conference held today in Tirana, Rama said that, “This National Conference aims on the one hand to reflect on the results and challenges in this daily battle in the front of the state’s relationship with the citizens and on the other hand to share these results, but also the problems with all the heads of public services and representatives of certain directorates or offices of public services”.

“We saw fit to accompany the issuance of the anti-corruption report with this conference because we believe that it is very important to share with the public the difficulties, as well as to try to put in perspective this ongoing challenge, which never ends. No country in the world, beginning from the most developed countries, has ever finally resolved the issue of corruption. Meanwhile, Albania has started to separate very clearly from a phase when corruption was a system in the citizens relations with the state in every contact with it”, stressed Rama.

“It was not 30 years ago, but a few years ago there was a time when all services for citizens were provided by direct physical contact. And even for the most basic and monthly services, such as the payment of electricity bills, the citizens had to stand in long queues, in the rain or in the sun, so that they could be given the opportunity to settle their bills”, said Rama.

“There were 300 thousand physical contacts per month between the citizens and the state and of course in these 300 thousand physical contacts there was constant arbitrariness, complete lack of quality in service, complete lack of transparency, procrastination and a lot of bribes,” said Rama./j.p /r.e/p.s./
