TIRANA, June 13/ATA/ Justice Minister Ulsi Manja highlighted the results achieved in the framework of the Justice Reform, while emphasizing that the Vetting process dismissed and penalized 60% of the magistrates who passed through this process.
Speaking at the first National Anti-Corruption Conference which took place today in Tirana, Manja said that, “Today, we are in this conference not only to present anti-corruption strategies or to share with the public our ongoing fight against corruption, but to share “Our concrete achievements against corruption and this has been made possible by our unwavering political will to support Justice Reform and the continued support of the US and the EU in the fight against corruption.”
The minister informed about the Justice Reform in these 6 years after its launch.
“I find that the first phase, that of the establishment and function of law enforcement agencies, is already completed. We have entered the second phase of the reform, which is its consolidation. The purpose of this justice reform was the fight against corruption in the judiciary and the vetting is the first result of this reform. Today that we are talking there are about 60% of magistrates have gone through the Vetting site and almost 60% of them have been fired or resigned. The other result is that in this first phase of the reform, the establishment of a new functional architecture within the justice system is sealed, which is the appropriate legal mechanisms for the system to be controlled and accountable,” he said.
Manja stated that, “After the Vetting process is completed in 2024, today we are talking, the High Judicial Council and High Prosecutorial Council are the guarantee that the system no longer falls to where it was, but is an independent system that provides justice to citizens.”
“Third, I want to point out the functioning of the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime and the National Bureau of Investigation, SPAK and BKH. As we speak today, SPAK and BKH have given the first tangible results in the fight against corruption at high levels. Today, SPAK has 17 prosecutors, BKH has 28 appointed investigators and 32 others in the process of appointment, and they are a guarantee that the fight against corruption at high levels guarantees success”, stressed Manja.
Manja said that, “During the period 2016-2022, the Albanian government has determined a budget of 114 billion ALL for the new justice bodies. Justice reform has established the necessary mechanisms for the justice system to deliver effective results in the fight against corruption at the highest levels. We are ready to budget the increase of the number of prosecutors in SPAK, based on the workload that SPAK will have ”./ j.p / r.e /p.s./
