Gazheli: Cooperation between law enforcement structures enhances security in Durres Port

TIRANA, March 10 /ATA/ The General Director of Customs Administration, Genti Gazheli, and the Ambassador of France in Tirana, Elisabeth Barsacq, visited the container control center in Durrës Port, where they highlighted the cooperation of the structures operating there in the service of security and border protection.

They also saw first-hand the training in port security for all law enforcement agencies operating in the Port of Durres.

Gazheli pointed out that this training comes at a time of uncertainty in Europe and globally and therefore takes on special importance, while for the customs staff it is an important step forward in increasing administrative capacities as part of the European Union accession.

Appreciating the cooperation between the two customs authorities so far, Gazheli thanked the French authorities for the continuous assistance provided to the Albanian customs ranging from the approximation of legislation with the acquis, to technical assistance for implementation of legislation in the field of excise products, training of administration in control “a posteriori” and especially in the information exchange network, which thanks to the support of French colleagues, has enabled our access to the Antifraud Intelligence System.

He informed that the customs authorities pursuant to the Albanian government decision to join the EU sanctions on Russia and based on the French experience, have set up an anti-crisis unit to respond in real time to the effects of transactions in customs procedures for imports and exports.

For her part, Ambassador Barsacq assessed that Albania has an important agenda on the path of European integration until the opening of accession negotiations.

Representatives of the French customs authority conducted a 4-day training in the field of security with representatives of structures operating in the Port of Durres.
