TIRANA, Dec 6 / ATA/ The US ambassador in Tirana, Yuri Kim, announced on Monday that the US is taking additional steps to prevent corruption.

In a posting on Twitter, Kim says: Corruption is a cancer. The US is taking additional steps to prevent corruption, combat illicit finance, hold corrupt actors accountable, and strengthen the capacity to expose corrupt acts, sharing the latest news from the White House where the Biden administration announced today the anti-corruption strategy that is designed to address the two main money laundering gaps in the US and the world, which are suspicious real estate transactions and the use of shell companies.

The US administration also aims to strengthen controls and sanctions on people who facilitate corruption and money laundering such as lawyers, accountants, trustees, business service providers and others.

The plan also envisages helping foreign countries strengthen their surveillance systems, regulate and protect investigative journalists who detect corruption.
