TIRANA, November 24 /ATA/ The works for the restoration of the Clock Tower in Preza Castle are continuing at a fast pace, after the damages it suffered during the earthquake of November 26, 2019.
According to CHwB Albania, the collapsed corner and the upper masonry of the tower are being gradually rebuilt, with the aim of ensuring a better connection of the new masonry with the existing one and at the same time securing it against possible natural disasters through structural reinforcement.
“The Clock Tower represents a very important and symbolic monument for Preza and not only, so we are doing our best to ensure that it resists in time, safer and for the coming generations,” said CHwB Albania.
The earthquake that fell on November 26, 2019 caused damage to the castle of Preza, a cultural monument, which began to be built in the 14th century and ended in the early 15th century. As a result of the earthquake, the castle wall cracked and some stones fell.
The restoration project has been developed and is being implemented by ChwB Albania and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage.
Preza Castle is built on a rock and has four towers.
Preza Castle is a typical medieval castle. It had its greatest flourishing in the 15th century, but various data have led specialists to think that it must have been built in the 13th-14th century. /p.s./
