TIRANA, Oct 11 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister of State for Youth and Children, Bora Muzhaqi, held on Monday a public consultation with the students of 5 high schools in Shkodra with special focus on the new National Youth Strategy (2022-2029).
The public consultation is part of a tour of high schools throughout Albania with aim of reaching out to the young people and involving them in the process of devising a document of work and concrete commitments of national and local institutions to empower the Albanian youth.
Prime Minister Rama said that pre-university education has made significant progress so far. But, according to Prime Minister, if we compare it with the future and our ambition, there is a long way to go.
Prime Minister Rama touched on digitization and the conditions of learning computer science at schools. He said that computer science laboratories nowadays falls below the standards.
“I’m not telling you anything new when I say that computer science learning is mechanical and theoretical. Even where laboratories are equipped with PCs, the practice leaves much to be desired. I strongly believe that one of the reasons that we have a significant gap in the job offers for young people today is the lack of specialist knowledge to do high- paying jobs,” Prime Minister said.
According to him, the lack of knowhow is not related to the knowledge disseminated through traditional curricula or the degree of knowhow by young people, but the knowledge offered by our school system about that is called the future, the information technology.
“We want to make a significant investment here, starting next year. The first is to strengthen the entire technology teaching system as soon as possible and enable the young people to go deeper than some mechanically acquired knowledge.”
For Prime Minister Rama, this knowledge opens up a whole new perspective in relation to the future and employment, giving young people such a great independence because the physical labor market is limited, while the technology market knows no borders.
“You do not need to move from home, suffice it to have the knowledge to enter a market that is unlimited, which is the market of the whole world, through a PC after having gained some specific skills,” said Rama.
“There are a lot of youths who work in a foreign market from home and get paid very well. They have some specialist knowledge about this. We want to work hard in this regard, with special intensive programs offered to young people at a relatively young age, to develop skills within a short time compared to the normal time this knowledge is acquired. We have created our own channels to teach the coding language to young people and to have as many coders as possible. “
