Milot-Fier highway, Shengjin port, major projects to be finalized in Lezhe district

TIRANA, March 15 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama put emphasis on a major development and infrastructure projects, including the Milot-Fier highway and the Blue Corridor project, his government intends to finalize during its third term in office.

“We have already launched a process on construction of the Milot-Fier highway as part of the Blue Corridor, as it has already come to be known in the European Union’s terminology. We were ridiculed and accused of lies when such a concept was introduced into our governing program. Construction of Milot-Fier highway definitely remains a top priority for our ruling majority. We have launched the process through an international tender, which actually failed to be finalized with a contract with the wining company as the contract’s terms were not favourable for the public interest and we plan to reopen the international tender as the design and everything else are ready. The Milot-Fier highway, part of the Blue Corridor, will be the largest public infrastructure project during our third term in office,” the Premier said as he presented the Socialist Party’s candidates for the next month’s elections in Lezhe.

Rama also informed that the tender for construction of the road connecting the coastal towns of Shengjin and Velipoje will be launched in a matter of days.

On the other hand, Rama said that process has also been launched for construction of an industrial park, which is expected to create huge employment opportunities for local Lezhe residents, and a number of international companies are increasingly showing interest to relocate their activities in this industrial park close to the Gjader airport area.

The government head highlighted the area’s potential for development of agritourism sector.

“Further development of the tourist area through a well-thought plan and serious investments will contribute to growth of economy and employment in this territory during our third term in office,” he noted.

PM Rama also noted that the new tourist port in Shengjin is one of the most important projects due to be implemented in Lezhe district.

“Shengjin tourist port will be the fourth along the chain of tourist harbours due to be built along Albania’s entire coastline, the only part in the Mediterranean yet to build this kind of infrastructure for yachts and cruise ships to dock at,” he said.

The government head also highlighted a long list of investments in health and education system and agriculture.
