TIRANA, Dec 13 /ATA/ – The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, on Sunday posted a video explaining how the COVID-19 patients can benefit cost reimbursement under the government scheme for the treatment of the infection at home.
Last month, the government approved a decision to reimburse citizens the cost of medicines used to treat COVID-19 as prescribed by family doctor.
The video shows Bujar Mema, a family doctor at the health care centre No.9 in Tirana, who explains the steps for the COVID-19 patients to received medicines for free.
“We just had a conversation with a patient with coronavirus suspected symptoms. She had undergone the test and she has tested positive for the infection. As soon as a patient is confirmed to have contracted the virus, we determine the condition of the patient and the entire medical treatment protocol we will apply in each case,” doctor Mema said.
Once the patient is registered as COVID-19 patient, an electronic prescription is generated.
“Given each patient’s medical record about other underlying conditions, the patient’s age, we determine the respective treatment, including also the vitamins, antibiotics, pain killers and fever treatment medicines that are all prescribed under the reimbursement scheme. Once the prescription is filled, we click and produce the prescription code of the patient. We then contact the patient and forward the respective code via a text message or through the help of family members or relatives, or through the help of the nearest pharmacist and the medicines are then sent to the patient’s home,” Dr. Mema said.
The government’s decision fully covers reimbursement of two treatment schemes for the confirmed COVID-19 patients, who show both mild symptom and moderate symptoms. The government has earmarked a total of 1.2 bilion lek to cover treatment cost of coronavirus patients at home.
