Justice Minister: Opposition won’t seize power by using children in violent protests

TIRANA, Dec 13 /ATA/ – The Minister of Justice Etilda Gjonaj Sunday the use of children and minors in the recent protests, accusing the two main opposition parties of inciting unrest and riots.

Gjonaj noted that protests are violent.

“The minors have been encouraged by political segments in the Democratic Party and the Socialist Movement for Integration. These minors have been abused by political subjects that have also taken parts in the protests, just like it was the case with the riots in Shkodra. The persons who incite various criminal acts through minors under the age of 14 are sentenced to up to 4 years in prison,” Justice Minister added.

To the Justice Minister, the use of minors is completely wrong, especially when this is done by political parties that talk a lot about youth, claiming how young people are leaving the country and calling for more attention to be attached on the youth.

Gjonaj called on parents to show utmost care and prevent their children from being misused by politics.

According to her, senior officials of opposition parties have participated in the recent protests in Tirana and other cities across the country.

“We have seen officials of political parties, who have participated in these protests. The Prosecutor’s Office should probe to establish who is staying behind the protests of the minors. They have no idea what they are doing. Images clearly show that political actors in DP and SMI have been involved. The opposition cannot seize power by using children to stage violent protests,” Gjonaj said.
