TIRANA, October 13/ATA/Head of the Department of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases at the Institute of Public Health Silva Bino described the decision on compulsory masks as a timely measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection.
Bino said that wearing a protective mask should be accompanied by physical distancing.
“I think the decision comes at the right time because today we have many more facts and data from the world, but also from our experience that show the significance of using the mask indoors and outdoors in order to prevent the spread of COVID- 19. Wearing a mask does not preclude physical distancing, but it is observed that physical distancing is not always maintained as people meet, often stay close, without realizing and preserving it. People talk to each other on the street, go to offices or other environments outside the apartment where transmission can occur. Since transmission occurs not only when you cough or sneeze, but also when you speak especially loudly, when you sing, breathe, etc., so wearing a mask is an important tool that prevents not only the transmission of the virus from a person who may be ill, but also prevents getting this infection from the other person. These are data that are available today from many studies”, said Bino.
Bino said that textile masks can provide a very good protection. It is sufficient for them to be washed and ironed and they have no cost.
Professor Bino stated that children under a certain age, persons who have mental retardation and do not know how to put on or take off the mask or persons who perform physical activity can not wear the mask during physical activity. Bino also emphasized that when we eat and drink we cannot have a mask, but between these actions the mask must be kept. /z.tosku // a.a /p.s./
