TIRANA, July 21 /ATA/- The Committee on Legal Affairs, Public Administration and Human Rights under the chair of its Head Ulsi Manja in today’s meeting reviewed article by article the draft law for some amendments and additions to the law on the Electoral Code of the Republic of Albania.
Manja said that the draft law is according to the June 5 agreement reached in the Political Council.
On his part, the SP MP and at the same time the Co-Chair of the Electoral Reform Damian Gjiknuri clarified at the beginning of the meeting that, “Yesterday’s discussions have nothing to do with changes in the agreement we approve today, moreover yesterday from the talks we have made with the non-parliamentary opposition we agreed to make some technical changes noted by the staff of the Assembly.”And I want to say that the formulations that will be made here have the consent of the non-Parliamentary opposition.”
No change was made in the article-by-article discussion, as it was previously agreed between the parties that the Assembly should approve what was signed in the Political Council.
At the end of the discussions, the Law Committee approved with a majority vote article by article and in its entirety the draft of 5 June for the changes in the Electoral Code, while 3 MPs of the Parliamentary opposition voted against.
“Pro, 3 against, no abstentions, the draft law is approved in its entirety. I thank MP Gjiknuri and other colleagues for the excellent work done both in the special commission and for the agreement in the Political Council, the product materialized. “The new electoral code has been enriched”, said Manja.
The draft law on amendments to the Electoral Code goes to a vote in the Assembly in the last session at the end of July./p.s./
