Public debt increase will not bring about any tax increase this year

TIRANA, June 2/ATA/- The Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Finance Milva Ekonomi stated today that the long-term expectations are for a good outcome from the postCOVID-19 crisis, but that currently the situation requires short-term developments.

“This requires not only commitment from the government to intervene in the economy, but also from the private sector, which should see as a challenge what is coming forward,” Ekonomi said in a media interview.

Ekonomi explained that the government is expected to enter international markets through the 650m-euro Eurobond.

According to her, this is not the first year of issuing Eurobonds. Ekonomi said international financial institutions say Albania has still a chance to cope with rising public debt.

“In parallel with the Eurobond, the government has approved a $ 170 million loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF),” Ekonomi said.

Further on, Ekonomi emphasized that the government is not planning to increase taxes on either the business or the citizen.
