TIRANA, June 15 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Saturday accused the non-parliamentary opposition of efforts to block Albania’s EU membership bid, while warning that anyone seeking prevent the June 30 local elections from happening could face harsh penalties for breaking the law and could also face bans on entering the EU and the US.
“This attempt against Albania will fail disgracefully and those who have undertaken such an attempt and those who join them will disgrace themselves,” PM Rama stated an electoral campaign meeting in the town of Devoll, southeast Albania.
The Socialist leader said “of course there are people who think differently and want this government ousted as soon as possible, but this people are badly misused by the opposition.”
The Premier reiterated that anyone trying to destroy or prevent the local elections from happening will face penalties for violating the law and will be included on the blacklist.
“People should be best informed that anyone who would dare destroy the elections will face harsh penalties, ending up behind bars and facing also ban on entering European countries and the US. They will be included on the blacklist. You already listened to the US (official) who openly named Lulzim Basha and Monika Kryemadhi by mentioning the blacklists,” PM Rama stated.
