New EC Report confirms Albania’s progress toward EU integration

TIRANA, May 30/ATA/- Prime Minister Edi Rama appreciated the Report of the European Commission recommending the unconditional opening of EU accession negotiations with Albania as an overview of the country’s achievements, but even of the distortions and destructive efforts of the non-parliamentary opposition to create in the eyes of local opinion and international friends the image of another Albania.

“The report is a confirmation by the EC of the fact that Albania has done its homework in relation to all the directives set out in the EU integration process. The EC report arrives at a conclusion that is not surprising to us, of course, and is a similar conclusion to that of a year ago, but the report is not the same. This means that in all its pages it can be found without difficulty that since last year Albania has made progress in the basic directives on the road to EU integration and on the other hand it is an overview where distortions can be easily seen as well as the destructive opposition efforts to create in the eyes of local public opinion and all those friends and partners the image of another Albania, “said the prime minister.

The report, said PM Rama, is not a confirmation of the fact that Albania has overcome all the problems or that in all these areas Albania has reached its ultimate goal.

“The final objective is the EU membership and the confrontation between the reality and the moment of accession is still far apart. Meanwhile, today we are talking about an intermediate phase to be completed with opening of the negotiations to address the problems and to advance on the path of transformation into a functional state up to the standards of an EU country, ” emphasized PM Rama./j.p/p.s./
