TIRANA, April 22 /ATA/ The Grammy Awards ceremony, one of the most important musical awards in the world, spoke in Albanian. Selected for the category ” Best New Artist ” were Dua Lipa, an English-Kosovar artist and Bebe Rexha, an American citizen of Albanian-Macedonian origin. The award went to Dua Lipa, who will also bring home a statue for the best dance song titled ‘Electricity’. It comes as no surprise any more, but as a deep gratitude for the up and coming career of the 23-year-old singer from Kosovo.
For a few years, Kosovo is considered as the homeland of pop stars, whose songs are broadcast on myriad radio channels and ‘streaming’ platforms in the world over.
Besides Dua Lipa, Kosovo is the home of Rita Ora who is also a model, actress and entrepreneur. She has not won a Grammy yet, but as compensation for that she appeared on the Oscars’ night to perform the song ” Grateful,” the soundtrack to ‘Beyond the Lights’ film.
Joining in this group of stars is Era Istrefi with 600 million views of ‘’Bon, Bon’’ on Youtube and her performance alongside Nicky Jam and Will Smith in the official song of 2018 World Football Cup in Russia.
Era Istrefi was born and raised in Kosovo, Dua Lipa and Rita Ora were both born to Kosovo families that have arrived in Great Britain during the ’90s as political refugees. Dua Lipa was born in London, but has lived in Pristina from the age of 10 to 15 years to return to the UK to study music.
Her first song on Youtube, ‘New rules’, received more than a billion and 600 million views.
Rita Ora was born in Pristina in 1990. A year later her family moved to London, where they have lived ever since. Beginning from 2012 her songs have always been on the world hit parades. These singers have always maintained strong connections with their roots.
