TIRANA, April 10/ATA/-Albania’s Interior Minister Sandër Lleshaj stated today that the Prosecution Office and the State Police are investigating into Tuesday’s money robbery event at Rinas International Airport which seriously threatened security and put seriously at risk the lives of police officers.

Lleshaj pointed at the security mechanism of the airport’s concessionary company and said that it did not functioned at all. He said that the Chinese company that has the concession on the airport has failed to meet its obligations to guarantee the standards of physical security.

“The concessionaire and the contracting firm responsible for the security at the airport have failed to meet the security standards as defined in the local legislation and the ICAO, although every passenger at the airport is charged with 3 Euros”, added Lleshaj.

The concessionaire and the contracting security firm have not even been able to signal the police on the security violation, said the minister.

The minister warned that the Albanian state authorities will take immediate measures to guarantee the necessary security standards at the airport.

The minister also congratulated the State Police for the rapid reaction and giving a devastating blow to the criminal gang that lost even its head in the event.
