Skanderbeg, a factor of unity between Albania and Greece

TIRANA, June 12/ATA/-The scientific activities held in the context of the Pan-national Year of Skanderbeg are attracting the interest not only of the public, but even of distinguished foreign and Albanian scholars who have the opportunity of presenting their scientific studies on the priceless value that the figure of our national hero has transmitted to literature and more.

Following the speech he delivered on Tuesday to the Albanological Conference in Tirana, Albanologist Titos Jochalas said to ATA that he considered an honour being officially invited by the prime minister of the country to speak about his albanological work “Skanderbeg in historiography and Modern Greek literature”.

“Skanderbeg is a great figure not only for Albania, but even for Europe”, said Jochalas.

He added that, “Skanderbeg figure is a symbol of unity between the Greeks and the Albanians. The Greeks have promoted Skanderbeg as a figure that united them during the national revolution and as a man who won victories over the Turkish. Many books have been written on him consisting the heritage of Balkan unity”.

Jochalas  also drew the attention to the fact that, “The Albanians have a double headed eagle on the flag, one to see toward Europe and the other inside themselves so that they don’t lose the traditions, language, i.e. the values that the Albanians have”./a.g/p.s./
