Umbrella draft law over relations of state with Diaspora

TIRANA, March 19/ATA/ -“Diaspora is not a political issue, but it needs political consensus so that it keeps up with its own state”, said Minister of State on the Diaspora Pandeli Majko during a meeting with members of the Albanian community in London.

While considering the Diaspora issue a challenge, Minister Majko said that the government has taken significant steps for creation of the relevant structures that will enable strengthening of the relations of the Albanians living abroad with their own state.

Likewise, the minister informed the participants with the law on the National Agency of Diaspora and the umbrella draft law, as he put it, which will re-structure all the institutions that will deal with the relations of the Albanian state with the Diaspora.

“We would like to establish a sustainable and long-term relationship with the Diaspora and which would not fade when the governments change. We are trying to institutionalize it so that it doesn’t remain simply a dialogue in the distance. The Albanian state must be in line with its Diaspora”, said the minister.

Further on, he positively assessed the achievements and successes of the Albanians in Great Britain and emphasized the need of a greater organization in different levels.

While highlighting the skills of the young  generation, the minister demanded a greater commitment to protection of the language and Albanian identity.

Minister Majko also spoke about the efforts underway for creating favourable conditions for orientation of the Albanian businessmen toward their country of origin.

Attending the meeting with the Albanian community in London was also the ambassador of Albania to the Great Britain Qirjako Qirko and Kosovo ambassador in London Lirim Greiçevsi. /a.g/p.s./
