Deputy PM says government open to student dialogue, not with those who destroy property

TIRANA, Oct. 20 /ATA/ – Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu said on Tuesday that the government remained open to dialogue with students and citizens protesting against it, but ruled out talks with those involved in violence and the destruction of public and private property.

In an exclusive interview with Klan News TV, Koçiu addressed the ongoing protests and Prime Minister Edi Rama’s invitation for demonstrators to engage in dialogue.

She said violence was being carried out in the name of students, a situation she described as unacceptable.

“As we have seen over the past several days, the capital has faced extreme violence targeting businesses, public institutions, police officers and other elements responsible for security and public order. We have called for the violence to be condemned, especially when it is carried out in the name of students, including minors who are there and are being used in their name,” she said.

Koçiu said the government was preparing a package of administrative measures under which people who damage public property would be required to pay compensation.

“Every public project built for the city is funded by Albanian taxpayers, and anyone who damages a public institution must pay compensation,” she added.

Koçiu stressed that the government was ready to hold talks but not with those who commit violence or destroy public and private property.

She added that those responsible for violence would face the law.
