TIRANA, Oct 29 /ATA/ – Albanian government plans to allocate 17.9 billion leks to agriculture in 2027, including an additional 1.1 billion leks in state budget funding, while direct support for farmers is set to reach 5.3 billion leks, Finance Minister Petrit Malaj said on Thursday.
Presenting the draft 2027 budget to the Conference of Chairpersons, Malaj highlighted the importance of agriculture to the economy and rural development.
“Agriculture remains an important sector for the economy and the development of rural areas,” he said.
The government aims to expand support schemes and increase the number of farmers receiving assistance, with about 43,660 beneficiaries projected for 2027, a figure expected to rise further over the medium term, Malaj said.
Key measures include continuing a 10% VAT compensation scheme for farmers, backed by annual funding of 3 billion leks, as well as additional funding for the National Scheme and improvements to irrigation and drainage infrastructure.
The draft budget provides an extra 100 million leks for the National Scheme and a further 400 million lek to upgrade irrigation and drainage systems, Malaj said.
