Rama announces up to 100% compensation for small businesses damaged in protests

TIRANA, Oct 25 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama announced today that the first measure in the new legislative package against urban violence would be a normative act providing immediate compensation for small businesses.

According to Rama, the measure will provide immediate financial assistance to businesses affected by vandalism, looting and arson.

He stressed that, under the act, the state would cover 100% of material damage for the smallest businesses, with compensation falling to a minimum of 70% for larger ones.

According to Rama, compensation will be provided based on clearly defined criteria and will apply exclusively to businesses with an annual turnover of up to €140,000.

Rama stressed that under this normative act, businesses that have already submitted applications, together with documentation of the damage incurred, to the General Directorate of Taxes will not have to wait years for court proceedings to secure compensation.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister stressed that those involved in acts of vandalism, including smashing, destroying, setting fire to and damaging businesses, for which the court had deemed their arrests lawful, would each have to pay their share of the fines for the damage caused.

“For damage caused by minors, responsibility for covering their share of the costs falls to their parents,” he added.
