Rama asks school leaders to document protest incidents for subsequent review

TIRANA, Oct 20  /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting today at the Ministry of Education with Minister Mirela Kumbaro and the principals of Tirana’s high schools to discuss the violent protests that have taken place in the capital in recent days.

During the meeting, Rama urged school principals to document the recent events in detail to build a comprehensive picture of what happened and identify the interventions needed in the future.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the process is not intended to produce a report for law enforcement authorities, but rather to establish a basis for analysis and reflection once the situation has calmed down.According to Rama, the documentation will help identify security-related interventions, provide support to individuals who may have been involved in problematic incidents, and reassess social interactions within schools.

“Together, we have worked hard to elevate school leadership. Most of you have completed training at the School of Directors and engaged in ongoing professional development. Yet today, guiding young minds in our schoolyards is far more challenging. Students are shaped not just by their households, but by the hidden digital spaces they carry in their pockets, radically altering how they approach traditional boundaries. That is why, together with the Minister and key advisers, we ask each of you to keep a detailed journal documenting the events of recent days.”

“Document the events of recent days in as much detail as possible using plain language. Simply capture what happened and how it unfolded,” Rama stated. “The goal isn’t to create a report for law enforcement, but to reconstruct a clear picture we can look back on and learn from once the situation cools down. This will help us pinpoint where to step in—whether that means improving security, offering guidance to those caught up in these events, or adjusting school life and social dynamics.”

Rama stressed that “young people and children are gradually losing their sense of social connection, and their socialization is increasingly taking place in an artificial environment where they communicate in a completely different way that leaves out the very foundation of human relationships: empathy.”
