Demo: Six police officers injured in protest, violence Is unjustifiable

TIRANA, Oct 13 /ATA/ Interior Minister Ervin Demo said today that six State Police officers were injured while carrying out their duties to maintain public order and safety during the protest held outside the Ministry of Education.

Demo unequivocally condemned the violence against the officers. He said that assaulting a police officer was not an exercise of the right to protest.
The minister called on all participants to remain calm, stressing that violence could not be justified.

He also wished the injured officers a speedy recovery. “They and their families have my full support and solidarity,” Demo said.

The minister assured the public that the State Police would continue to fulfil its duty to maintain public order and safety, while respecting the right to peaceful protest and acting professionally, with self-restraint and in accordance with the law.
“At this moment, everyone has a responsibility to help ease tensions,” he stressed.
